This ebook is very easy to navigate,
all you need do is go to the lower left
and use the scroll box to turn the pages.
For your convenience, the index on the
right will take you directly to any page
if you need that particular information.
Or, you can use the next
button on the lower right or the index
button on the lower left of the page.
However,
Please bear in mind that 99% of domain
names are essentially worthless.
Example: Cars.com may be
worth enough to retire on. SportsCars.com
may be worth enough to buy a second-hand
car on. PerformanceSportsCars.com may be
worth a few hundred dollars.
ePerformanceSportsCars.com is worth
NOTHING!
What no appraisal
system, free or for-fee will tell you: is
that your domain name may (often) be
worth LESS than what you pay for it: it
may be worth $ ZERO.
This is especially true
if you've had to substitute numbers for
letters, like go4broke.com or if your
domain name relies on multiple hyphens,
like a-long-domain-name.com
Of course, you can
always generate value in a domain name by
developing it into a popular website (no
matter how "bad" the original
domain name was). A domain name with a
track history as an established site,
with incoming links and steady traffic,
will usually be worth more than the same
site with a great domain name that is
left undeveloped.
(examples would be eBay.com and
Yahoo.com)
Always remember the
following rules in choosing domain names
for investment or sale
1. A name should
make sense. Don't register domain names
just because they are short, cute or
trendy,
2. A cute
name is one that substitutes
dashes and numbers for words.
Names like B-4U are of dubious
value.
3. Shorter
is better applies to under 3
Letters and even then numbers and
colons will decrease the value.
4. Trends
have a way of changing and you
may be left holding a name that
will have lost much of it's
value. The name BeanyBaby.com at
one time was worth many times
what it is today.
2. Generic names
are premium as they describe something in
the shortest possible way.
1. A
generic domain name is the most
valuable domain name particularly
in the .com ending. Names like
car.com, business.com, etc....
Generic names in any suffix can
be valuable, but, most likely
will never reach the value of a
.com name.
2. The size
of the industry the name
describes will influence the
value.
3. Catagory
names that are the most valuable
describe a segment of business or
industry. Business.com sold for
$7.5 Million.
4. The less
words the higher the value.
5 Spelling
should be correct for maximum
desirability. Incorrectly spelled
names will be harder to find on
the search engines.
3. .COM is tops.
.NET is about 30% to 40 % of the Value of
a .COM name. .ORG is worth about 30% to
40% of a .NET name or about 10% of a .COM
name. (exceptions do exist.)
Names with
other suffixes such as .info,
.biz, etc... are generaly worth
less and are less desirable.
4. Rememberability
is important. If a name is unforgettable
it is most likely valuable.
If you have
to sit and think to remember a
name, then a web site will have
to develope that name to make
people remember it.
5. Trademarked
NamesStay away from
them.
There are
excellent reasons for this.
Everyone has heard the stories
about the guy who thought ahead
and bought
"some-huge-multi-million-dollar-company.com"
and sold it to the company for
enough money to retire on. But,
remember that those companies
have spent lots of time and money
creating their brand. So don't
try to take advantage of their
work.
The second
reason to avoid trademarked names
is that many businesses are no
longer buying their names back.
They are calling their lawyers
and sueing for infringement.
Soon, pending legislation will
soon make it very difficult to
register someone elses
trademarked name.
Remember, there are
exceptions as all Domain Names are only
worth what someone is willing to pay for
them.
Suggestions:
Look for
Nich Market Names that can be
developed.
Watch the
news to see what is current
Check the
teck sites to find out what is
being discovered and developed.
You may have to wait for a while,
but you could find a real winner.
Watch for
new celebritys, products, and
information. Become aware.
Expired
Domains can
sometimes provide good names as
people forget to renew, decide
not to renew, die, etc.... There
are many watching, but, Ya never
know.
Watch the
Auctions, sometimes people need
to sell and/or don't realize the
value in a name.
OK,
Let's be realistic. The most valuable domain
names are few and far between. However a good
living can be made by speculating in Domain
Names.
If
you use 10 different appraisers, you will most
likely get 10 different appraisal values.
No
formula is accurate for all domain names. Most
appraisal services will inflate the value of a
name or will undervalue it.
I
first use the free
appraisal services
listed below, before I purchase, then depending
on the results, if I think the name still has
good potential, I purchase the name.
I
will then put it on eBay a couple times with a
high reserve. This gives me two good indicaters
of the domain names potential. If the domain name
doesn't do well or attracts no attention I then
get rid of it.
1. The finial price
bid.
2. The traffic the
domain name attracted.
Ebay
is not a good place to sell as there re too many
names under priced that brings down the value of
good names. Check our page on selling Domain
Names for places where you should get better
prices.
Here
are two Free Domain Name Appraisal Services I
often use.
Selecting
a good domain name can help to increase your
search engine rankings dramatically. The name can be a
Bet19um of 67 characters, including the last four
which will be most likely be .com, .net or .org.
Your domain name may contain only letters,
numbers, and hyphens. A hyphen may not start or
end the name.
Though domain
names can be up to 63 characters long, some
versions of Netscape will not open pages residing
on domains over 59 characters. Therefore, 59
characters has traditionally been the practical
limit for savvy Webmasters. However, some experts
report that Yahoo has recently begun rejecting
domain submissions over 54 characters. So,
although domain registrars will sell you longer
domains, you'd be wise to stay under 55
characters (not including the .com or other
suffix).
Describe what you
want to tell people about your site, then
compress it into 55 characters. Some sources say
that separating keywords by hyphens will help
increase your ranking in certain search engines.
How ever you decide to style your name, be
certain that you combine your main keywords into
the domain.
To
register a Domain Name, you must first
find out if it is available. This is done
by doing a search.
Prices for
registering Domain Names will vary on different
sites. When I first started purchasing Domain
Names, the price for one year was $35.00. If you
shop around today, you can purchase some domain
names for about 1/4th of that amount. On the
newer extensions you can purchase the names for
even less. However, these extensions usually do
not have good investment possibilities. The .Com,
.Net and .Org extensions are the most popular for
investment and development.
The average is around
$15.00 and I suggest you check the services that
come with registration. Services vary greatly.
Also, the ease of using the services can vary
greatly. Some of the sites selling domain names,
can be rather obnoxious with the promotions they
make you go through before you can finish a
purchase.
"Whois" provides information
on who owns a particular domain name and
when it expires. This information is
usefull if you are looking for that
special domain name.
There are
hundreds of Domain Name sites where you can
register a domain name. Most of them offer
Hosting, Parking and many other services. Make a
list of your needs and then go shopping.

Name system is set up. The

Locking
Domain Names
Locking your domains
prevents changes from being made to a
domain's contacts and name servers.
Locking also prevents the domain name
from being transferred to another
registrar without your knowledge.
OK, you want to be
creative and find a Domain Name that no one else
has come up with. Just go to our page on Finding

Here are the places to

doesn't know the value of a name and bargains are
to be had. There are many places in each of the
categories and a simple search will give you
thousands of names to consider.

How To Buy And Sell Domains For
10,000%+ Profit
Author: Jonathan Street
This truly is the
business to get into in 2005. It's a red hot
opportunity that can make you anything from $150
to $3000+ a week part time. And this article will
walk you step-by-step through the money-making
process.
There are a few ways you can make money buying
domain names and selling them on for profit. And
I mean PROFIT. You'll see why people will be
scratching at your door to buy off you in just a
moment.
But first let's start with the basics.
All domain names are only registered for a
limited amount of time.Registrars can choose to
use the name for a period of between 1-10 years.
After this the rights to these domain names
expire and the user has to renew the name again.
If they don't do this it will be placed on hold
for a short time and then deleted. This means it
is then availible for anyone who wants to buy it!
This Is Where You Can Cash In!
20,000 expired domain names are made availible
each and every day. Some of them are very
attractive and well-established names.
The owners of many of these domain names will
have accidently let them expire. But their
carelessness is our gain.
You see you can "grab" these domain
names (a term used for purchasing an expired
domain name) for around $10 and then sell them
back to the old owner for hundreds of dollars!
The owner will be willing to pay huge sums to you
because they had built up qualified traffic over
X amount of years and didn't want to lose all the
previous custom.
It's not just businesses that have carelessly let
their domain name expire that will buy off of
you. It's other businesses too that will buy the
name to get the old owners' traffic. It's a
legitamate way of increasing your customer base.
But is this a legitamate business? YOU BET!
There's nothing shady or untoward about this
business in the slightest. That's why
entrepreneurs in the know are making money hand
over fist.
So let's move on. There are two main reasons why
people will be willing to pay YOU a couple of
hundred dollars for a domain name.
a) They carelessly let the domain name expire.
That means that they will pay you to get the name
back to ensure that they don't lose their
existing traffic that they may have built up over
years and years.
B) They are a business in the same field as the
one that has let the name expire and therfore
will pay you to secure the exisitng custom of a
rival.
Here's step-by-step how you go about this
fantastically profitable part time business.
There are several sources of expired domain name
information and reserach tools, some free and
some that require a payment of a fee.
www.wehavethem.com supplies lists of names due to
be deleted. www.DeletedDomains.com allows you to
do some searching free and more extensive
searching for a $99 annual fee.You can search for
names that are due to be deleted and also allows
you to bid on newly deleted names that have
already been grabbed by other 'investors'.
What you are looking for is an expired domain
name with traffic in the last month of anything
over 1500 (download the Alexa toolbar for this
info @ www.alexa.com). Ensure that the site is an
actual consumer site. There's no point buying a
domain name if the previous site wasn't selling
any goods.
If you see a site that had tens of thousands of
visitors in the last month GET IT. The likeliness
is that the previous owners will be itching to
get their name back off of you due to its obvious
success.
Also if you see a name with a large qualified
traffic thats due to expire and has a high
traffic volume use an automated grabbing system
such as www.snapnames.com and www.pool.com. These
will ensure the second they become availible you
will have registered them. The cost is about $60
but only if they get the names for you.
Definately worth it in my eyes.
Remember you could easily sell the name for
hundreds, maybe thousands.
In part 2 we'll take a look at how you go about
selling the names once you have acquired them.
But in the mean time here's a few domain names
which were up for sale at the time of writing
this article. Now obviously not all names sell
for this much, but it's a very real possibility
that you could stumble across a gem in your
business.
The profits in this business are like no other.
Now it's your turn to get your hands on your
share in the billion dollar industry of buying
and selling domain names.
Until next time...

DNS
HOSTING TRANSFER
(DOMAIN NAME SERVER TRANSFER)
You want to modify the name
server setting associated with a domain
name TO POINT TO YOUR HOSTING COMPANY NAME
SERVER.
For
your domain name to work, it must be
associated with a DNS (Domain Name
Server). To change the DNS simply go to
the Domain
Manager of your new host and click on
Change DNS/Hosting Info
Your new hosting provider should have
given you the primary and secondary DNS
information. This information will
usually take this form:
Insert this information in
the required locations which are normally
provided in a form by your host.
Transferring
DNS vs. Transferring a
Domain
Many
hosting companies confuse
their customers on the
subjects of transferring
DNS and transferring a
domain. We
recommend that you choose
a hosting company that is
separate from your
registrar.
Why? If you decide
to change hosting
companies, you can do so
right away at the
registrar. If the
domain name is registered
and hosted by the hosting
company, you will get the
sense that you are under
the mercy of the hosting
company, and if you try
to transfer your domain
to another registrar, the
hosting company in order
to compensate for losing
your registration
business, may do one of
the following - ask you
to upgrade your domain
name by paying more money
for additional services,
or they will ask that you
pay back a subsidized
portion (amount to get
out of the
contract with
them).
For
examples of the procedures for
transfering Domain Names between
Registars and Owners I suggest
visiting DomainsNext.Com
Domain Forwarding (URL Forwarding) redirects traffic
from your domain's URL (Web Address) to another
URL (Web Address) hosted elsewhere.
For example, the
domain name www.mybusiness.com could be
automatically redirected to
another URL such as www.JohnMontgomeryBusinessProjects.biz
even if you have not set
up a website with the my business.com domain name yet. URL
Forwarding is fast, effective
and inexpensive. If you have a long web site
address you can register a domain name and
forward it to that address.
Some hosting companies will not allow unique
domains (i.e. www. mybusiness.com) to point
to your web site If a website has been developed
as a subdomain on another site acting as
a host (i.e. www. geoplanet.com/mybusiness.htm).
In that case, you will also also want to
use URL-forwarding.
Some Hosting companies
provide Domain Forwarding Free and others charge.
For a list
of Free Domain Forwarding providers, search here.
Domain names are
being snapped up all the time so if you
have thought of a cool domain name for a
future project then it might be wise to
register it now. There is a chance that
if you leave it too late someone else may
register it. While your planning your
site, you can park the domain name.
Domain parking is
a process where you register a domain and
do not enter the domain name servers of
your hosting company. Usually the domain
registrar will park your domain by
default on their server, this means that
if you type your domain name into a web
browser you will arrive at a default page
provided by the registrar.
If you are going
to hold onto the domain for a while or
not develop a site straight away then you
may want to consider a domain parking
service that offers you revenue from your
parked domain. Domain parking services
such as Traffic
parking
and sedo offer revenue sharing from
your parked domain.
Revenue sharing
from a parked domain works by traffic
being directed to a search page or pay
per click page where any visitors to your
parked domain may click on the ads and
you receive a percentage of the revenue
from this.
Traffic parking
claims that a parked domain receives on
average 8 hits per month but a popular
domain name may get thousands of visitors
due to direct type ins and miss typed
domains. Unless you have a popular domain
name it probably isn't worth the effort
to use a revenue sharing parking service
and just use your registrars default
parking page.
So domain parking
is a process where you register a domain
and leave it until you are ready to use
it. You may or may not have a parking
page where any stray visitors will see a
default host parking page or if you use a
domain parking service an ad targeted
page.
Domain name
leasing can be more lucrative than
parking for certain types of domain
names. The advantages are outlined below.
Parking can be a
cheap marketing venue for advertisers and
bad for domain name owners. From the
perspective of parked domain name owners,
advertisers may be free riding on your
domain names. Even with rank-competition
among advertisers, they may still be
paying below their maximum viable
capacity, i.e., for certain keywords,
they may be willing to pay much more to
receive such traffic. Moreover, there are
services such as BunledPPC.com, that strive to eliminate
pay-per-click (PPC) price wars,
considerably pushing down bids on top
ranks, and in the process, reducing
revenue from parked domain names.
Furthermore, the leading ad aggregators,
such as Overture, have a $100
cost-per-click (CPC) limit, typical for
legal related keywords.
On the other hand,
for advertisers, leasing is a preemptive
strategy that prevents competitors from
gaining access to such a targeted
advertising venue.
Possible
explanations for the increase in the
number of parking compared to leasing
domain name include:
Advertisers
and domain name owners are
unaware of existing mechanisms,
such as DomainMarts leasing program, that facilitate
leasing.
